My "end of sabbatical" presentation

A couple days ago I had an open house and presentation about what I've learned about the "spirit of institutions" in the past year. I am very grateful for the feedback, support, and challenges from that those who gathered with me that evening. I also had a lot of fun. Some people who weren't able to be there requested a video of the presentation. Here is a 3 minute "trailer" for the presentation:

You can watch the full video (56 minutes) here. During the presentation, I used the following diagram to talk about four layers involved in the spirit of institutions (you can click on it for a larger version):

I "unveiled" my plans for integrating what I've learned from the sabbatical in my consulting business--supporting the spirit of organizations by facilitating strategic planning, program development, and leadership development. Here's a handout describing those services:

At the event I gave out these "Spirit of Institutions Awards," acknowledging some of the people I have learned from this past year. I asked people at the event to write down their questions and comments. I got a great list of questions, which I think will keep me busy for the next year. As I said in the presentation, I'm still very passionate about this topic. I'm going to continue to learn, share, and apply what it means to bring more of our own spirits to organizations, and how organizations can create cultures and structures that access deep sources of creativity and effectiveness. I welcome your dialogue and collaboration!

What a wonderful way to pull together the various communities in which you have friends and stories! Thanks for taking the time to share so completely of yourself and for posting a summary of the event here.

Blessings,

P.S. Might you include in your original post or elsewhere a list of organizations and groups (and their related links, where applicable) that were "represented" either among the attenders at your presentation or among the individuals whom you interviewed in the past year...?

Thanks, Liz. I don't think that I could do justice to a complete list of groups that were represented at the open house, or from my past year of learning.

Here is one list of organizations that I've learned from in the past year: I'm not alone: Other groups integrating spirituality and organizational life.

Three additional groups that have been grounding for me in the past year are Laughing Waters Friends Worship Group, Faith Mennonite Church, and City House.

Hi Michael - I have not reviewed your latest posting but I did check out the Lissa Jones interview and thought it very insightful. I might paraphrase her in my conversations with the fathers participating in my groups, many of whom are African-American. In my evaluation tool I ask if fathers personally take their children to a "place of worship". The vast majority, over 80%, responded "never" which I believe is a facet of their poverty. In addition to being financially depleted they are also spiritually depleted, though still remarkably resilient. As such I believe they have potentially great insight into spiritual strength. Cool blog. Thanks for the opportunity.
